Students celebrate World Braille Day

Christina Garrison’s aspire class celebrated World Braille Day and the birthday of Louis Braille on January 4 at Washingtonville Middle School. Students participated in a reading and comprehension activity related to a biography of Louis Braille.

Afterwards, Jennifer Kirk, district vision teacher, came into the class and shared with the students several books written in Braille. She also provided each of them with their own copy of the Braille alphabet and printed out their own names in Braille which they had to try to identify. Mrs. Kirk also brought a Braille printer and allowed students to print words out on the Braille printer.

“This was a great lesson in learning how people can overcome challenges in their life and become successful at whatever they put their minds to,” said Mrs. Garrison.
